Hello Comic Book fans! It's been a while, so i thought I better pop in a few things that I've worked on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been reading all the original Fantastic Four comics (currently on issue 246) and it's inspired me to finally get the team finished. Well sorta. You can see, I've cheated with Sue Richards, The Invisible Girl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyhow, I do have an awesome Knight Models Thing to paint up, but wanted to make more of a comic booky look for this team. I've retouched the Thing I've had for some time, and added a Reaper mini for Mr. Fantastic, and a Heroclix for The Human Torch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The Man-thing is such a unique character (Nothing at ALL like DC's Swamp Thing), and I've always loved that droopy face of his. So, I used a metal Wyrd Mire Golem as the basis and converted my own. He was really fun to do. I've place him on a Wyrd mini topper, which seemed more than fitting.<br />

I've spent most of the spring and summer slowly collecting the Marvel Knight Models that I didn't have....it's been time consuming (and slightly expensive). Hopefully, I'll take the effort to show off what I've got soon. Thanks for reading!!supervikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944344140388129535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3831812896758422117.post-50868324241773482272016-12-04T11:48:00.001-08:002016-12-04T11:48:23.780-08:00Batman, Red Skull, and a superVikeHello True Believers,<br />
<br />
I've been plodding along with my super hero miniatures, and have finished a couple to show off.<br />
<br />
First, is the Knight Models cool 'Frank Miller' Batman.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLgOOtc5qII0JEGbEB9JtKJU9lBXclGduNW1P9h_f-D_0S3AxIUVgYGZ65CbXpJuI7JVO51iAHY9zjeMGHHsocu9bc5mR53KHkNThKSLlTuhbAjHXW-YuGdMckVF2vYB3iTFXpOFMWGGwz/s1600/darkknightpan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLgOOtc5qII0JEGbEB9JtKJU9lBXclGduNW1P9h_f-D_0S3AxIUVgYGZ65CbXpJuI7JVO51iAHY9zjeMGHHsocu9bc5mR53KHkNThKSLlTuhbAjHXW-YuGdMckVF2vYB3iTFXpOFMWGGwz/s640/darkknightpan.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've always liked this version of Batman. The Dark Knight Returns came out around 1986, and is probably one of the best Batman stories out there. It represents an older Batman, coming out of retirement. He's darker and much more brutal than previous versions of Bat's, and that dark tone still permeates in the character today.<br />
<br />
The Ben Affleck Batman was heavily influenced by this version. Anyhow, I just loved the model, and it was really fun to paint up.<br />
<br />
I did do a few touchups to my existing Knight Models Batman as well, as I was in a Batmood.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz0RE6FyN32zhCXatajfdM0fXuRqzDEujOmzLVvVV5wN6XW03Uo65D819f5LJGR3037IilNvAviwtRCHhddpat5KBAoIMeQMfkec03_BCRm3sZp15G2Qxvnd4gKUmFi4_mb9daeZ0U0xi_/s1600/batman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz0RE6FyN32zhCXatajfdM0fXuRqzDEujOmzLVvVV5wN6XW03Uo65D819f5LJGR3037IilNvAviwtRCHhddpat5KBAoIMeQMfkec03_BCRm3sZp15G2Qxvnd4gKUmFi4_mb9daeZ0U0xi_/s320/batman.jpg" width="242" /></a></div>
<br />
And now, to move back to my slowly realized Invaders Project, here is the Commander of the Flaming Skull guy I posted last time. The Red Skull.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0PyC8yBWwnOaa0ANhMGuKG89dlu77hyeTCsbq4QM2MAcLwIAT99pOCGaeNmr0EA3kpCLPx8yr5p1SVOletz9MbgtdOHzaj4MovisqU2pyIaL-dLzW4JAgnU7IE39RYU48uHg0VQJvzIyi/s1600/redskullpan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="345" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0PyC8yBWwnOaa0ANhMGuKG89dlu77hyeTCsbq4QM2MAcLwIAT99pOCGaeNmr0EA3kpCLPx8yr5p1SVOletz9MbgtdOHzaj4MovisqU2pyIaL-dLzW4JAgnU7IE39RYU48uHg0VQJvzIyi/s400/redskullpan.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Certainly one of Captain America's best villains. This is another WhatThe? mini. <br />
<br />
Now, lastly, not exactly a super Hero, he's definitely a Super Vike, so I wanted to post him here.<br />
<br />
This is a Impact Miniatures fantasy football player that I converted into a Minnesota Viking.<br />
I had lots of fun doing this one, hope you like it!<br />
<br />

<br />
First up for my Marvel Invaders project is this Weird War 2 bad guy. While not ever in the Invaders as such, I thought he'd make a good henchman for the likes of the Red Skull.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/supervike/flameskull_zps8p5gbbph.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/supervike/flameskull_zps8p5gbbph.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">From the now defunct WhatThe? minis.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
And a big set of miniatures I just acquired, all for the Batman Miniature Game from <a href="http://knightmodels-store.com/">Knight Models.</a><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDoo1PhnBphorbvNjSKSCTkdY7KKoVjw9F9zwzdiB7wj2SwPOz859Ik_F8FmJbmHW_x3mXPM04sB5614R7p8qOGqnzVXWDMpTjsqKPvFirsv-idv170RGsxqRSlKl9c0miOZkovpyRscfK/s1600/IMG_4144.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDoo1PhnBphorbvNjSKSCTkdY7KKoVjw9F9zwzdiB7wj2SwPOz859Ik_F8FmJbmHW_x3mXPM04sB5614R7p8qOGqnzVXWDMpTjsqKPvFirsv-idv170RGsxqRSlKl9c0miOZkovpyRscfK/s320/IMG_4144.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lots of stuff packed in this box!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Suicide Squad Game Box includes 13 miniatures directly from the Suicide Squad movie (which I have yet to actually see). It also contains some very cool cardboard buildings, rules, dice, and a scenario booklet. I bought it for the minis. By pre-ordering, it also came with a Ben Affleck Batman. I'll post pictures as I work them up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With the same order, I decided to throw in the Knight Models Batmobile, inspired by the Batman Arkham video games. Here's a very rough fitting of the parts. The cast looks pretty good, but it will still require some cleanup. I've never been a big fan of resin, despite it's incredible detail showing properties. It's far too brittle and hard to work with, but we'll see how this one goes.</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I hope Batman is a Triple A member, he's gonna need a tow.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Stay tuned!supervikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944344140388129535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3831812896758422117.post-70302631661252279072016-04-12T16:35:00.002-07:002016-04-12T16:35:54.212-07:00Sidetracked. Batman, Thor and the Winter Soldier.As often happens in my hobby life, I get easily sidetracked.<br />
<br />
So, a small break from my Invaders Project (which is a small break from my MHI project), led me to finishing up the Knight Models Batman I'd been working on for quite some time.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqjqTR78gW_LFbC3BTDix8VXI21sY7W6cUbE8TZQ6zK-uVPcakypD8hEGWzNqDwjTcCGlm0uRgtXX8quW4-pKgiBcEo7mVDvSE9RvWYEuH_g7q_uLe8Ic5Srt0HZYjAgIYw5ghWron0X0R/s1600/IMG_3740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqjqTR78gW_LFbC3BTDix8VXI21sY7W6cUbE8TZQ6zK-uVPcakypD8hEGWzNqDwjTcCGlm0uRgtXX8quW4-pKgiBcEo7mVDvSE9RvWYEuH_g7q_uLe8Ic5Srt0HZYjAgIYw5ghWron0X0R/s400/IMG_3740.JPG" width="275" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Nana Nana Nana Nana Batman!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I've gotten a bunch of the Knight Models, and despite the high price, they are hands down the best Super Hero miniatures on the market. The size is based on a 35mm scale as opposed to the 28-30mm scale most of my other miniatures are in. However, that just makes them even more detailed and a bit easier to see that detail. <br />
<br />
The real problem, for me anyhow, is that my hacky paint style just can't quite do the awesome sculpts justice. After dithereing on this one for some time, I finally just plowed through. It's rougher than I'd like, but there is no doubting who he is.<br />
<br />
In addition to the DC stable of comics heroes (mostly Batman, but slowly expanding) Knight Models also do a line of 35mm Marvel heroes. I have stocked up on these as well. Here is Thor, the first model for my Avengers set. I suppose I can shoehorn him into Invaders Project, as Thor did actually appear in the run.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I think in that run, Hitler convinces a rather naive Thor that the Axis are the good guys, and Thor should really go and assassinate Stalin. Luckily, our intrepid Invaders manage to stop and convince Thor that he's been duped. He's not all that brilliant for being so Mighty...<br />
<br />
Last up is a RAFM miniature I converted to represent the movie version of The Winter Soldier.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I sculpted on some hair, and a facemask, and then scraped off the sleeve and painted on the metal arm. It's not perfect, but it was really fun to do. I wish I had spent a little more time with the hair. but I think he's instantly recognizable. I really couldn't have asked for a better basis to work from. I would like to see Knight Models do The Winter Soldier justice though!<br />

<br />
First up, is a character I can't seem to recall ever being in the Invaders comic series, but is essential none-the-less to the WW II effort of the Marvel Superheros. Dum Dum Dugan is part of the Howling Commandos. This mini was produced by White Knight to go with the Retro Cap I painted last time.<br />
<br />
Pretty basic paint job on a fun little minis. I love his cigar chompin no-nonsense look.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next up is the Savage Sub-mariner. The Sub-mariner was one of Marvels first super hero, and along with Captain America, and the original Human Torch, formed the basis the the Marvel superhero stable in the 1940's.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Capturing that essence is what led Roy Thomas, the writer of the Invaders in the 70's, to showcase the teams exploits during the War.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyhow, here's my start on Price Namor. He's just a repainted Heroclix, and I'll be working more on a proper base to make him look as if hovering over the battlefield.</div>

<br />
It's unfortunate that Heroclix are made with such rubbery material. The sculpts are sometimes suprisingly good, and I'd love to be able to paint this in metal, or even resin.<br />
<br />
I've got a couple of Human Torches to work on to help complete the main group. I plan on having multiple versions of Cap and really dig this one. He's just a shade shorter than some of the other versions I have, but he still has that early Captain look that they captured in the movie.<br />
<br />
I like the idea of Captain having many adventures in WW II, from solo missions, to small commando tactics with both the Howling Commandos and alternatively the Invaders.<br />
<br />
Being a war hero is what eventually turned him into a Super hero and it's a rich area to explore. <br />
<br />
James 'Bucky' Buchanan, Cap's stalwart sidekick had been with him since the early days. I like to think of the 'Invaders era' comic version of him, with the 'gee golly whiz' writing to be War Time propaganda to inspire young men back home. In reality, he is a season soldier in his own right, both deadly and heroic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghufeWctDi-Vi6ksM6jNserBfaAws6-jOqSbLg-FMW9XXtmVgsP4qvynvIb1HNhjy6hxEkWpqHwQVvsaoeA6dGyrBI1XjwdiGwtDeuVlvTl7Xs2SWV070rxE6l4ATlVPUS-KISeWwBwaxt/s1600/IMG_3686.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghufeWctDi-Vi6ksM6jNserBfaAws6-jOqSbLg-FMW9XXtmVgsP4qvynvIb1HNhjy6hxEkWpqHwQVvsaoeA6dGyrBI1XjwdiGwtDeuVlvTl7Xs2SWV070rxE6l4ATlVPUS-KISeWwBwaxt/s400/IMG_3686.JPG" width="306" /></a></div>
It's an idea they explore pretty well in the modern comics, and also in the movies. The movie version skips the teenage Bucky altogether, and just makes him Cap's best friend from Brooklyn. In fact it was Bucky who was always the strong one to the weakling (but incredibly brave) Steve Rogers.<br />
<br />
This mini, made by the What The...miniature company fits into that pretty well. He's got the campy costume on, but the Thompson submachine gun isn't just for show.<br />
<br />
The model was sold as a set with the Captain I've shown earlier, see pic below. <br />
<br />
I've got several other miniatures ready to paint up, including the rest of the nucleus that makes up the Invaders, the Human Torch, Toro, and the Sub-mariner.<br />
<br />
I'm also slowly working on the Howling Commandos, and the first I have for that is Dum Dum Dugan. <br />

I also will be working on some of the bad guys, cuz having no one to fight would be rather boring. I'm going to go similar to the movie line plot, with a Red Skull inspired Hydra division being as the main villians. I also have plans for the Super Axis, a group of super powered Nazis that match up against the heroic Invaders.<br />

The Invaders have arrived.2016! I still can't get over how fast the last year flew by. I'll kick of the New Year by sharing one of my resolutions. I resolve to spend more time painting and modelling, shrinking that unpainted pile of lead and blogging about my efforts.<br />
<br />
So, right to it.<br />
<br />
Back in the 70's Marvel put out a series of comics called The Invaders. It was based in the 1940's, during World War II, and featured Captain America, The Human Torch, and Submariner.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Yh1KrYWyL54_GfC4Jyu1FWGw_WAWVVSjkdtR3S7IpRKzAkXq3W1nY0vBkcTpQ3oeJ_5llZsFmx1Di7s6YkUk5EW9G1Xvyhi0vJbFwQluw-X3XWQYayUg1AfQeeLDgVFXq9DxWcXIUHNK/s1600/invaders+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Yh1KrYWyL54_GfC4Jyu1FWGw_WAWVVSjkdtR3S7IpRKzAkXq3W1nY0vBkcTpQ3oeJ_5llZsFmx1Di7s6YkUk5EW9G1Xvyhi0vJbFwQluw-X3XWQYayUg1AfQeeLDgVFXq9DxWcXIUHNK/s200/invaders+1.jpg" width="128" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXXW7iMJg6JVw_PPIlYyxdlIDLpuGGHZhb-Z_6UwXxYeuuQ5EPCCpqDq5bRbg5LXB8tIXxSKAojrUtqPj6hWYPuNNmV1Y28a37Md242VImiSKwPUgPqXC-nVlb1gSuMfASjPpZ3M7cwHxh/s1600/vol+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXXW7iMJg6JVw_PPIlYyxdlIDLpuGGHZhb-Z_6UwXxYeuuQ5EPCCpqDq5bRbg5LXB8tIXxSKAojrUtqPj6hWYPuNNmV1Y28a37Md242VImiSKwPUgPqXC-nVlb1gSuMfASjPpZ3M7cwHxh/s200/vol+2.jpg" width="130" /></a>It was only a series for a couple of years, but I fondly remember it as one of my favorites from my youth. Recently, they've been compiled in a two volume set by Marvel:<br />
<br />
The art is wonderful, and the stories...well, comics have come a long way. Don't get me wrong, there is a certain charm to the stories, but they are pretty cringy bad. Hacky writing, and a bit of stereotypical sexist and insensitive cultural awareness. Regardless, the characters and situations are awesome, and inspiring enough for me to want to spend some time representing the characters in miniature form.<br />
<br />
My first effort in this account was a couple of the World War Two Captain America's I've posted in earlier posts. <br />

I've gathered a bunch of miniatures that will fit in well with these guys, and the first up is a figure from the very cool table top game INCURSION, by Grindhouse Games. I used a character from the game, as the basis for my first Union Jack. Union Jack is also known as Lord James Montgomery Falsworth, and we learn in his first comic appearance, that he is a retired English gentleman. It is revealed that during World War I, in his guise as Union Jack, he fought for the British, and raised hope and spirits among his comrades. Succeeded by his son, Brian, the second version of the character, joins the formidable Invaders and vows to stop the Super Axis.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBMXV0NNA7HMJPT8uO1SCkYf6D-E9wWFmkbbZYQdjNDdv4iQDnYzFB3nwGFrBHYnEGhEfanFFov_x6bL01evFbcufi2niA9KKTI7b5d0zqfwT-GMWjT-EOIt6BITj-UegPy_vXIdfZw-Pw/s1600/IMG_3645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBMXV0NNA7HMJPT8uO1SCkYf6D-E9wWFmkbbZYQdjNDdv4iQDnYzFB3nwGFrBHYnEGhEfanFFov_x6bL01evFbcufi2niA9KKTI7b5d0zqfwT-GMWjT-EOIt6BITj-UegPy_vXIdfZw-Pw/s320/IMG_3645.JPG" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Although not a perfect facsimile for the character, I thought this model worked well, especially with that action pose and no nonsense gunwork. I've got a few other miniatures lined up to represent different versions of Union Jack, and his sister Jacqueline, who becomes an Invader as well, known as Spitfire.<br />
<br />
I think I'll also want to do a version of the Original Union Jack.<br />
<br />
It should be a fun project to work on, and I'll keep it fresh by rotating between my Batman Miniature games minis, and my Monster Hunter International project.<br />
<br />
Thanks for checking it out, and hope to see you again soon!<br />

I have a few more I'd like to talk about, and will probably continue this series in future posts. <br />
<br />
<b><u>Pulp City</u></b><br />
<a href="http://newstore.pulp-city.com/image/cache/catalog/amok1-1000x563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://newstore.pulp-city.com/image/cache/catalog/amok1-1000x563.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a>I believe the company is based out of Poland and has quite a large selections of both Villains and Heros. From what I have read about it, the game system that these miniatures were designed for is well balanced, and quite fun. However, I'm primarily a painter and modeller, so I'll leave the assessment of the game to others.<br />
<br />
The miniatures are very well designed, and look fantastic. At first, it seemed to me that they focused far too heavily on more of a Sci-fi feel, and less a comic book one, but in the last couple of years they have gotten more into that look, and all the better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://newstore.pulp-city.com/image/cache/catalog/solar-1000x563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://newstore.pulp-city.com/image/cache/catalog/solar-1000x563.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
I've yet to get my hands on any of the miniatures, so I don't know how they are in the flesh. And <i>that </i>seems to be the biggest con for them. At least here in the states, it's hard to find these.<br />
<br />
Ordering directly from the Pulp City site is an option, and I'll have to take advantage of that soon, but the minis are a bit on the expensive side, and shipping from overseas adds even more.<br />
<br />
The other point I'd like to make is that these minis are specifically designed to fit into the story line of Pulp City. So, it makes converting them into more of my favorite heros/villians more challenging. That's not necessarily a con for everyone, but it is for me. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/prodimages/Superfigs%20%20New%20Foundation%20Zero%20Figures/SF-ZB-19-1_large.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/prodimages/Superfigs%20%20New%20Foundation%20Zero%20Figures/SF-ZB-19-1_large.jpg" height="242" width="320" /></a><b><u>Pros</u></b>: Well designed, look great<br />
<b><u>Cons:</u></b> Hard to find from US distributors, too specific to be anything other than Pulp City characters.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.four-colorstudios.com/supersystem.html"><br /></a>
<a href="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/categories.asp?cat=47">Superfigs</a><br />
<br />
Superfigs have been around for a while. While they were designed to work with the <a href="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=353">Supersystem</a> set of gaming rules. The sculpts are rather generic, and what you would expect for comic book fare. I find this to be a big positive, as I've used several of them for conversions (like my Wolverine from last post).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/prodimages/superfigs/brawler1_painted.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/prodimages/superfigs/brawler1_painted.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/prodimages/superfigs/gadgeteer4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/prodimages/superfigs/gadgeteer4.jpg" height="200" width="125" /></a>They do have all the charm that many old school minis have, but that also means there are some seriously dodgy sculpts in the line. <br />
<br />
However, there are also some real gems in the line too, so it's worth it to check them out. There are a few painters around the web that have done some awesome things with the minis, and have probably done more to sell these than most of the website's versions. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b><u>PROS:</u></b> Cheap, generic. A few gems.<br />
<b><u>CONS:</u></b> Not great sculpts.<br />
<b><u><a href="http://crossoverminiatures.com/"><br /></a></u></b>
<b><u><a href="http://crossoverminiatures.com/">Crossover Miniatures</a></u></b><br />
<br />
The last company I'll mention for now is Crossover Miniatures. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://crossoverminiatures.com/figures/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/guard-domino.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://crossoverminiatures.com/figures/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/guard-domino.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://crossoverminiatures.com/figures/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/ramjam-ram.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://crossoverminiatures.com/figures/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/ramjam-ram.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a>They have a small but growing line of generic super heros and villians. <br />
<br />
I've yet to actually get any of these minis, and need to rectify that soon. To be honest, most of them do nothing for me, the sculpt quality just isn't great, and I find some of them just too 'squat' to look right. <br />
<br />
But, like the Superfigs line, there are a few gems hidden in there, and look worthy of at least a try.<br />
<br />
I'll keep an eye on this line as well, as it continues to grow, and hopefully the quality will improve.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Pros:</u></b> Old school, look fun to paint, Inexpensive.<br />
<b><u>Cons; </u></b>Not my favorite designs.<br />
<br />
<br />
Anyhow, that'll do for now! Please feel free to add comments about any miniature line you enjoy and point me to some I may miss.<br />
<br />
I'll continue this theme in future posts! Until next time!supervikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944344140388129535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3831812896758422117.post-25167014326692944852015-12-12T20:22:00.000-08:002015-12-13T11:50:20.785-08:00Showing off stuff I done did.Thought I'd take a chance to repost some of my older Comic Book minis. I've posted some before, on various places, but I thought it'd be nice to get them all in one place. Plus, I now own a camera that is capable of taking much better pictures. These minis were all painted several years ago. Some of them even a decade or more!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've painted minis for a long time now, and it used to be, outside of Heroclix, there were really not too many miniatures directly based on my favorite Super Heros and Villians. So, if I wanted to represent a character, converting was about the only way to get there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Four Color Figs makes a ton of generic miniatures, and I decided to convert their 'Feral Warrior' into a Wolverine-proxy. I actually made the claws from bobby pins, filed groves into the fists, and glued them down. The paint isn't great, but it sure was fun to convert.</div>

I found this little plastic gem in a toy store. He's from a set called Handful of Heroes, made by Hasbro. The other 'handful' I got were not very well sculpted, plus the scale was wacky, so I only painted the Thing. Captain America is probably my favorite of all heros (maybe tied with Batman), and I certainly wanted to add him to my collection. I wanted a WW 2 inspired Cap, and found a perfect start, again from Reaper Miniatures, from their Chronoscope line. I think they call this one Mack Torry, but I thought he'd be better as Steve Rodgers. The veteran solider look just works so well for Cap. I had an extra shield from another Cap mini, and it made the perfect addition.</div>

That extra shield came from this mini. This awesome WW2 cap came from a company called 'What The' Miniatures. <br />

Eventually, I'll start on my Captain America and the Invaders project I've had tabled for quite some time.<br />

Lastly, just another update on my most current miniatures, Batman, still a serious work in progress. I just paint a little on him, between my Monster Hunter stuff. <br />

Super minis on the web.Superhero's have been in miniature form for as long as I've been into miniatures (that's quite a while). It seems however, that only in recent years has there been plenty available of high quality.<br />
<br />
In this post, I think I'll highlight some of the manufacturers of superhero minis.<br />
<br />
In no real particular order...<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://knightmodels-store.com/">Knight Models</a> Unbelievably well done miniatures. They first started their comic book minis in the 70mm scale. Not really ideal for gamers, but great for painters. I have a few of these, and the quality is incredible.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://knightmodels-store.com/WebRoot/Store19/Shops/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b/5563/1A30/9D1F/5420/4004/0A48/354A/B0AC/KMV029_CAPTAIN_AMERICA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://knightmodels-store.com/WebRoot/Store19/Shops/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b/5563/1A30/9D1F/5420/4004/0A48/354A/B0AC/KMV029_CAPTAIN_AMERICA.jpg" height="200" width="156" /></a><a href="http://knightmodels-store.com/WebRoot/Store19/Shops/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b/5563/1388/102F/57FE/DC13/0A48/354B/6C41/KMV019_DAREDEVIL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://knightmodels-store.com/WebRoot/Store19/Shops/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b/5563/1388/102F/57FE/DC13/0A48/354B/6C41/KMV019_DAREDEVIL.jpg" height="200" width="156" /></a></div>
<br />
However, the price of these isn't for the feint of heart. They are certainly collectors items.<br />
<br />
A few years ago, Knight Models was able to secure the license for a line of Batman miniatures.<br />
<br />
Mostly based on the very popular Batman Arkham video game series, these 35mm miniatures have become increasingly well like by tabletop gamers and painters alike. The line has expanded into more DC characters, A Batman Miniatures game, scenery, and the newly announce Legends Line.<br />
<br />
Somewhere along the lines, they've added a Marvel 35mm series to the mix, and now there is rumor of a Marvel game as well. Both the DC and Marvel lines have a very good selection, especially of all the main characters I grew up with.<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>Pros:</b> High Quality, growing and supported line. All your favorite comic hereos and villians<br />
<br />
<b>Cons:</b> Pricey. Some models are fiddly to assemble. 35mm makes them tower over most other lines.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Superhero/latest/page1">Reaper Miniatures</a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50080_w_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="157" src="https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50080_w_1.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50027_w_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50027_w_1.jpg" width="163" /></a>Reaper miniatures produce an insane amount of figures for mostly fantasy based miniatures, however, tucked away in their Chronoscope line, they have quite a few generic superheros and villians.<br />
<a href="https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50212_w_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://www.reapermini.com/graphics/gallery/4/50212_w_1.jpg" width="127" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
A speedster, a superdude, cyborg ape, and the list grows. They make a great basis for either converting or creating your own comic book characters. <br />
<br />
If cost is a concern, many of these miniatures also show up as Bones miniatures. Bones are inexpensive plastic minis that Reaper is now producing. They work best for solid chunks figures, but if there are guns or small parts, they tend to bend and get out of shape.<br />
<br />
<b>Pros:</b> Inexpensive, fun to paint<br />
<b>Cons:</b> Inconsistant in both scale and sculpt quality<br />
<br />
<br />
I'll continue this list in future blog posts!<br />
<br />
In the meantime, thanks for reading, see you next time.<br />

<br />
Since I was just a little kid, I've had an affinity for monsters, superheroes, and scale models. It seems some things just stay with you, as I've never really lost interest in any of those things. <br />
<br />
So, to keep track of it, I bring you<span style="background-color: white;"> <span style="background-color: #cc0000;">supervike's super stuff!</span></span><span style="background-color: white;"> </span> I plan to share my painting, works in progress and other things, mostly gaming miniature related, but all Comic related.<br />
<br />
To kick things off, here's a couple of superhero minis I've recently worked on. First is a Hasslefree miniature, called Harby, simply painted to be the Punisher. Just a simple skull and black paint, and he really works as Frank Castle.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/supervike/IMG_3545_zpsmo0i9wr2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/supervike/IMG_3545_zpsmo0i9wr2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Man on a Mission</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And a WiP of one of Knight Models amazing Batman miniatures: Still pretty rough! <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/supervike/IMG_3549_zpsh00rdwug.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/supervike/IMG_3549_zpsh00rdwug.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Nana nana nana nana Batman!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Knight Models are head and shoulders the best looking comic books minis, both DC and Marvel are well represented, and I hope to see many of them grace my painting table in the coming months.<br />
<br />
I really hope you follow along.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading! supervikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944344140388129535noreply@blogger.com0
